This is a simple step by step guide to "How to Put Music on PSP".

  1. Connect your Sony PsP to your PC using a USB cable.
  2. Then, using your PSP interface and hit the "HOME" button, and then go into Settings.
  3. Now use the directional buttons to find USB Connection
  4. Once the connection is made, you will need to check your PCs available drives. You can do this by going into My Computer.
  5. Your PC should detect your PSP as an additional drive. It is not much different from using a portable or thumb drive actually.
  6. Click on your assigned PSP drive.
  7. Create a new folder call Music (or any name you prefer) on your PSP drive
  8. Select the music files (MP3) from your PC and drag it into the music folder you just created on your PSP. Please note - All this is done in your PC.
  9. When all the desired music files are transferred, press "O" on the PsP to get out of the USB connection.
  10. Find the music area in your PSP, and select your memory stick. Search for your music folder and you are good to go.

If you have other types of music format in your PC, i.e. WMV or WMA, you will need a converter to convert those files to MP3 format.

On the other hand if you want to play WMV and WMA files without converting your files to MP3, you can always update your PSP firmware to the latest firmware. However, I would not recommend this (upgrading your PSP firmware) as it will severely limit your PSP experience. Some of the effect of upgrading your PSP firmware is that certain games you have will not work on your PSP with the latest firmware. There are forums dedicated to PSP downgrading as a lot of people want to revert back to their old firmware.
